Liberal Party: Azerbaijani opposition bloc nearly collapses

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 13 / Trend T.Hajiyev /

The Azerbaijani opposition bloc Azadlig has nearly collapsed, Liberal Party Acting Chairman Avaz Temirkhan told Trend today.

"Azadlig is no longer a three-party unit," he said. "I think the bloc will soon cease activity. We are not disappointed. We will participate in the elections together with the Civil Development Party."

The Azadlig Bloc's Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) and the Musavat party earlier voiced their interest in establishing a joint electoral bloc.

"The Liberal and Civil Development parties have done everything to keep the bloc alive," Temirkhan said. "Our party will not enter into the PFPA electoral bloc."

He also wished success to the PFPA in association with Musavat and the Union for Democracy.

"We hope their alliance will be strong and never break down," Temirkhan said. "Azadlig leaders Lala Shovkat and Ali Aliyev have repeatedly told PFPA Chairman Ali Karimli that they will not interfere in the party's unification with Musavat. We are delighted that the PFPA is cooperating."
