Uzbekistan to host German cultural and political program

Uzbeks will learn about German society, culture, politics and economics, as well as German-Uzbek relations and their prospects for development, during the “Weeks of Germany in Uzbekistan” event being organized by the German embassy and the Goethe Institute in Tashkent from September through December, the embassy said.

Uzbeks will learn about German society, culture, politics and economics, as well as German-Uzbek relations and their prospects for development, during the "Weeks of Germany in Uzbekistan" event being organized by the German embassy and the Goethe Institute in Tashkent from September through December, the embassy said.

More than 30 events in the fields of culture, education and economics are due to take place as part of the German Weeks program including classical music, jazz and rock concerts, theatrical and dance performances, and exhibitions and video art projects.

The event will officially start on Sept. 17 with a concert performance demonstrating the influence of Eastern culture on the music of the German composer Handel.

The German Weeks program also includes an exhibition called "Speaking in German," a football tournament among pupils and students in Samarkand in early October and other events.

The event concludes with a jazz concert by the Arne Jansen trio and the Sogdiana orchestra.

The event has been organized with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German economic representation in the Central Asia, the German Development Service (DED), the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (dvv international), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Technical Cooperation Society (GTZ), the Development Bank (KfW), the Robert Bosch Fund, the German economic club in Tashkent, the Fund of Savings Banks of Germany and Central Board for Schools Abroad (ZfA).
