Former Deputy Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Nikoloz Pruidze, was detained Thursday by the police, the administrative head of the Georgian Interior Ministry, Shota Khizanishvili, told Trend.
He was detained this morning after questioning at the prosecutor's office.
Pruidze will be charged with corruption relating to the tender of vaccines imported to Georgia.
Investigating authorities have information that people importing vaccines against measles, rubella and scarlet fever, overstated the cost of the drugs with the assistance of deputy minister.
According to the Control Chamber, $1 million was lost from the state budget because of the scam.
The Georgian Interior Ministry intends to announce details of the case later.
Pruidze resigned three weeks ago after new minister Andrei Urushadze was appointed.
