Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is supposed to visit Azerbaijan in the near future, Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov told Trend. "This visit is an indication of the close ties existing between the two countries," said Akhundov.
According to the ambassador, over the last year, a lot of mutual visits were made between officials of Iran and Azerbaijan. "From them, we can name Azerbaijani Parliament speaker Oktay Asadov's visit and Chief of State Border Service Elchin Guliyev's visit, as well as Iranian Interior Minister Mustafa Mohammad Najjar and Culture Minister Mohammad Husseini's visits to Azerbaijan. In addition, Azerbaijani Culture Minister Abulfaz Garayev is expected to visit Iran soon," said the ambassador.

Akhundov appreciated the future relations between the two countries. "The relationship will develop in all spheres. Azerbaijan pursues independent, multi-vector policy. This is the legacy of our national leader. We will continue to act in this regard," said the ambassador.

He added that Iran and Azerbaijan are not only neighbors, but also fraternal, friendly countries. "We have the same religion, history and literature. Therefore, our relations are developing and will develop only in a positive direction," said the ambassador.
