Direct contacts between the structures of the mechanism for preventing and responding to incidents will create conditions for gradual normalization of life in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, said OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Secretary of State - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev.

On Wednesday, the regular meeting of the working groups within the mechanism was conducted in Ergneti area bordering with South Ossetia. The sides discussed issues of cooperation in the prevention of incidents triggering tension in the conflict zone in Georgia.
Today's meeting resumed the process of regular discussions, which were interrupted in October last year.

"Direct contacts between the relevant agencies will succeed in stabilizing the situation in areas adjacent to the line of administrative control (LAC), create conditions for the gradual normalization of life of the population," said the news release by the Foreign Ministry.

Cooperation in solving practical problems should be implemented without politicization and preconditions, said Saudabayev.

The statement says that the OSCE counts on the active role of all participants in ensuring the substantive discussion of the agreed agenda in Ergneti/Dvani on a regular basis.

"The full functioning of the mechanism will increase confidence and enhance the ability to solve political issues within the Geneva talks," said the statement by OSCE Chairman-in-Office.

The head of Kazakhstan's diplomacy finds it necessary to intensify work on the OSCE-proposed humanitarian projects in the region. He called on relevant parties to act responsibly and constructively, which is especially important on the eve of the OSCE summit in Astana.
