The Georgian People's Assembly will hold a large-scale event in front of parliament on Rustaveli Avenue today.

The meeting will bring together 12,500 delegates from different regions of the country, event co-initiator, five-time chess world champion Nona Gaprindashvili said.

She added that a large number of supporters will join the meeting. It is still unclear how many people will arrive to the capital to take part in the event.

"If there are enough people to hold a rally, it will be possible to do so," Gaprindashvili said.

The opposition National Forum, Conservative Party, and several NGOs will attend.

Ex-Parliamentary Speaker and Democratic Movement-United Georgia leader Nino Burjanadze is a co-organizer of the event.

Earlier, she said that by denying the assembly the right to hold their rally at the Locomotive Sport Palace, the authorities have taken full responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

"The people will decide how to deal with the Saakashvili regime and the politicians will do what the people want," she said.
