Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec.13 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

The Georgian Thirty-Second Battalion arrived in Afghanistan today.

The battalion will be stationed in one of the most complex provinces -- Helmand -- under U.S. command, the Georgian Defense Ministry told Trend.

Within the international peacekeeping operation, the Georgian military will patrol and maintain contacts with local people and, in case of necessity, provide them with medical care.

According to U.S. military experts, the Georgian peacekeeping battalion is one of the most exemplary in the mission.

The battalion replaces the Thirty-First Battalion, which recently ended a six-month mission in Afghanistan. During the mission, five Georgian soldiers were killed.

In total, two Georgian units - 170 soldiers serving in the area of France's responsibility and 700 serving in the area of U.S. responsibility - are fulfilling missions in Afghanistan.
