A regular meeting of the Council of Chairmen of the electoral bloc "Karabakh" was held at the Azerbaijani Umid Party's headquarters on Thursday.
The meeting discussed the participation of the bloc in the electoral process, its activity, and public attitude towards the bloc, the party told Trend. The Council of Chairmen decided to dissolve the bloc.
The meeting was attended by the Umid Party Chairman Igbal Aghazade, the Azerbaijan Democratic Party Chairman Sardar Jalaloglu and the Aydinlar Party Chairman Gulamhuseyn Alibayli.
According to the Electoral Code, electoral blocs should stop their activity after the elections, Azerbaijan Democratic Party Chairman Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend.
"Due to the fact that the election process is officially completed, we decided to dissolve the "Karabakh" bloc. At the same time, we started discussions on the continuation of this bloc's activity as a political union. We have reached a preliminary agreement to create a "Karabakh" political bloc," Jalaloglu said.
According to him, the bloc is open for other organizations.
Chairmen of ADP and Umid announced the creation of the electoral bloc "Karabakh" Aug. 25. Then, the Aydinlar party joined the bloc. The bloc has nominated candidates on 93 constituencies in the parliamentary elections. However, only one of them was able to gain the required number of votes.
Azerbaijan held the elections on Nov. 7.
The voter turnout hit about 50.14 percent (roughly 2.48 million voters) in Azerbaijan, the Central Election Commission's Elections Information Center told Trend.
The CEC reported that 690 candidates were running for the parliamentary elections.
Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005.
