Council for Strategic Cooperation of Azerbaijan and Turkey to meet in Baku - Ambassador

The Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation of Turkey and Azerbaijan will hold its first meeting in March or April of this year in Baku, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ankara said in an interview published on Sunday in Zaman newspaper.

The Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation of Turkey and Azerbaijan will hold its first meeting in March or April of this year in Baku, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ankara said in an interview published on Sunday in Zaman newspaper.

According to Faig Bagirov, a delegation of Turkish Ministers headed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will arrive in the capital of Azerbaijan to participate in the Council's meeting.

Bagirov also said that the first meeting of experts of the Council would be held in January in Ankara. This meeting will examine the agreements to be signed between the two countries, he said.

Turkey and Azerbaijan signed a joint document on the establishment of the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation at the Istanbul summit of the heads of Turkic-speaking countries in September 2010

The ambassador noted that the agreement on visa-free regime between the two countries could be signed this year. According to him, in this regard the Azerbaijani side is working on the implementation of domestic legal procedures.

Bagirov also said that he expected the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in 2012.
