Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) President Movlud Cavusoglu said Azerbaijan has achieved a significant progress during the period of membership in the Council of Europe.
"We welcome the 10th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership in the Council of Europe. There is no doubt that over the past ten years the PACE and Council of Europe have contributed to promote democracy and fundamental principles of the organization.in Azerbaijan." Cavusoglu said. "During this period, Azerbaijan has made significant achievements in the sphere of democracy. There are opportunities to further improve the situation this area. I hope the country will have new achievements in this area in the future. We act as partners and are confident in achieving the best results."

Azerbaijan became a member of the Council of Europe in 2001.

Cavusoglu said achievements were also observed in the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.

"I can voice same thoughts in relation to elections. The country also has achievements in the election. We can say that all our criteria were fully met. The report on the Azerbaijani elections reflect these thoughts and the PACE Bureau has adopted the report unanimously at its today's meeting. It is desirable that a new promotion is observed in the elections. I am confident that the next elections will be conducted more transparently. Even more respect will be manifested in relation to democratic principles. The country holds each election better than the previous. We are on track.
