Azerbaijan has very good relations with the European Court on Human Rights, Azerbaijani Supreme Court Chairman Ramiz Rzayev told reporters.
According to him, it is very important to study and introduce case of the European Court law in Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan has been a member of the Council of Europe for already 10 years. At the same time, we are in the jurisdiction of the European Court on Human Rights. Of course, it is very important for us to use the experience of the Court, because we have joined the European Convention on Human Rights and introduce it in Azerbaijan. Therefore, We now study the case law of the European Court. There is also a Presidential decision in this regard. The Supreme Court held a plenum and made a relevant decision on this issue. Studying and introducing the case law of European Court has been recommended by us to the local courts. A number of activities have been conducted in this regard. If I say briefly, for more than six years, every Tuesday the Supreme Court has been holding seminars on this theme, where we study the practice. We closely cooperate with the judges of the European Court in this field, inviting them to Baku. A conference with the participation of the European Court judges was held prior to the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. We intend to hold such conferences this years a well. This practice is very important for us. Today, a seminar is conducted in connection with the beginning of the Year of the European Court. The topic of the seminar is "Limit of commenting the European Convention on Human Rights". With this, the Court will summarize its activities in 2010 and will report its objectives for 2011. The European Convention on Human Rights is above all our laws, except the Constitution. Therefore, we must study and apply this practice, because in all cases it serves to protect the rights of our citizens. The European Court has about 100,000 cases that must be addressed. Therefore, national courts must protect the rights of their citizens so that there would be fewer complaints to the European Court. Of course, the goal of both local courts and European Court is to restore violated rights of people. The much we deal with it perfectly, the much our citizens will be happy. Therefore, we have very good relations with the European Court on Human Rights," Rzayev said.

According to him, the ministers of justice have been invited to the conference in connection with the transformations in the European Court, which will be organized by the Council of Europe in April in Izmir. According to Rzayev, this event may also be attended by the Justice Minister of Azerbaijan.
