Tbilisi has so far refrained from commenting on the initiative of four U.S. senators offering to place anti-missile radar in Georgia instead of Turkey.

Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania said this initiative deserves attention in terms of security and stability in the region, but the U.S. government should take a decision.

"This is yet an initiative, so the Georgian side has not a specific position on this issue today. I can not say that it is a strategic plan. Therefore, I think it is early to do political commentary on this issue," Jalagania said.

On Friday, a group of U.S. senators, Republicans put forward a proposal to place missile defense radar in the framework created in the European missile shield not in Turkey, but in Georgia.
