The Georgian Interior Ministry detained three individuals suspected of organizing and committing terrorist attacks in Georgia in 2010. Merab Kolbaia with nickname Kocho, who was one of the performers of the terrorist acts, was detained on consequenceof special operation conducted by law enforcers, Ministry's official Grigol Beselia said at a briefing.
Kolbaia was one of the major connecting ring in a gang group led by Russian colonel Evgeny Borisov and he had received shelter in Georgia`s occupied region of Abkhazia. Georgian law enforcers refrain from talking about where Kolbaia was detained.
Two other members of organized crime gang have been detected by the investigation. They are Nukri Shonia and Davit Kekutia, who took part in preparing the mentioned terrorist acts.
Borisov and another organizer Mukhran Tskhadaia are being wanted by the police.
In early December 2010, the Georgian Interior Ministry reported about disclosure of a series of terror attacks which, according to the Ministry, were led by the Russian colonel. The ministry detained six people and distributed a videotaped confession of a Gogity Arkania, who spoke in detail how he the Russian military forced him to the crime. Gocha Khurtsilava and some other detained persons involved in this case also gave testimonies.
The Georgian authorities appealed to the relevant structures of Russia to carry out a joint investigation into a series of attacks. The Georgian officials report that a terrorist group has committed five attacks, including an explosion outside the U.S. embassy in Tbilisi, over a short period.
