Presidential candidate in Kazakhstan, ecologist Mels Eleusizov prefers to be between the opposition and the government, his press service reported.
"I prefer the middle of everything, including the political level," said Eleusizov.
He said replying to the question of voters about whether Eleusizov, along with the other candidate Gani Kasimov, intends to lead the opposition. Voters cited the statements by Ermuhambet Yertysbayev, adviser of current President.
As part of the pre-election campaign, Eleusizov, chairman of Tabigat Environmental Union, met with the staff of Ile-Alatau National Park and with residents of nearby villages Tastybulak and Kamenka on Monday.
Four candidates passed registration at the Kazakh Central Election Commission (CEC) and will continue to participate in the snap presidential elections scheduled for April 3. The candidates are Nursultan Nazarbayev, Communist Zhambyl Ahmetbekov, and Leader of the Patriots Party, Senator Gani Kasimov and Tabiyat Ecological Union leader Mels Eleusizov.
Experts believe the acting head of state will easily win the upcoming elections. 70-year-old Nazarbayev has been in power for over 20 years, and according to surveys, is supported by about 90 percent of the population.
