Electing Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev the Chairman of the Parliament entered the history as the Day of salvation of the Azerbaijani people and state, deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend.

"Heydar Aliyev's return to political power in Azerbaijan became possible as a result of political will and desire of the people. Heydar Aliyev's return to power in Azerbaijan prevented the civil war and split of the country, created a large ground for socio-economic development of Azerbaijan," said Gurbanli .
As a result of policies pursued by Heydar Aliyev, the steadfastness of the national independence of Azerbaijan was ensured, favorable conditions were created for the development of the country, the war was prevented, the Armenian aggression was suspended, the position of Azerbaijan in the world strengthened with conducting a balanced policy.
"The National Leader Heydar Aliyev also defined the basic principles of the Azerbaijani State, unified the Azerbaijanis of the world around the idea of single Azerbaijanism," he added.
Today, the path defined by the National Leader is successfully continued by the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, he said.
"June 15 - Day of National Salvation has an important place in the history of political celebrations in Azerbaijan and is associated with a name of great leader Heydar Aliyev," said Gurbanli.
Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of National Salvation on June 15.
Heydar Aliyev was elected the chairman of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan Republic 15 June 1993. The Parliament declared that day a holiday in June 1997.
