Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov discusses in Spain the prospects of bilateral relations, a source at the Foreign Ministry told Trend.
Mammadyarov on Thursday met with State Secretary for Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade Alfredo Bonet.
At the meeting the sides exchanged views on the current state of relations between the countries, their development and prospects of transition to a new level, including the features of cooperation within the EU and the importance of opening Spanish Embassy in Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Mammadyarov informed of the economic development and achievements of Azerbaijan in recent years, oil and gas policies, as well as exports and transparency in this sphere, the distribution of profits oil from, the process of diversification in the economy, large projects and initiatives implemented in the Republic.
In turn, Bonet informed of external economic policy, the main trading partners of Spain and that Spain is the second country after the United States for the investments in Latin America. State Secretary mentioned the interest in expanding ties with Azerbaijan, the importance of the activity of Spanish companies in this regard.
Emphasizing the importance of organizing a business forum between the two countries, the importance of visit of senior officials of Spain to Azerbaijan, Mammadyarov mentioned the possibility of signing the appropriate legal documents in the field of economics.
Mammadyarov's visit to Spain is the first official visit to this country after the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.
Mammadyarov gave an interview to Spanish "El Mundo" newspaper on the existing ties between the two countries and the prospects for their development.
