Ensuring national interests is the main issue for Azerbaijan in the Nabucco project, deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli said in an interview with NAP official website.
"Azerbaijan is involved in international projects in accordance with its own interests. Our national interests are met at the highest level in international and regional projects implemented so far. From this point of view ensuring national interests is the main issue for Azerbaijan in its approach to the Nabucco project," he added.
He said Azerbaijan will further participate in projects that meet its economic interests.
"Azerbaijan has oil and gas resources, and from this point of view interest to our country in the international arena is great. We play a role of a bridge connecting East and West. Azerbaijan exports its oil and gas via various pipelines. Our country does not face any problem in the delivery of its products to the world market. Those advancing the idea of "Nabucco" must first address the issue of laying this pipeline. Azerbaijan sells its own gas and does not face the problem with exports. Moreover, it is not dealing with an idea of building a new pipeline, investing additional funds it in. Gas buyers should deal with this issue," he added.
