A Human Rights Dialogue to be held between Georgia and the EU on Monday will mull the crackdown of rallies in Tbilisi on May 26, EU Ambassador to Georgia Philip Dimitrov said.

The EU representation told Trend that the European Union once again shows great interest in human rights protection in Georgia, and closely monitors the situation in this sphere. "The EU has awaited the information on further advances in this direction with great interest," the statement reads.

Dimitrov said "the dialogue between the EU and Georgia is a two way process, which gives the parties an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments which have been made and recognize problematic issues that remain."

The statement welcomes holding meetings with NGOs working in the human rights field before the next round of dialogue.

"The dialogue will address a broad range of issues, including the events on May 26 and statements on the use of disproportionate force by Georgian police, as well as sentiments towards the mass media in Georgia," the statement reads.

Some 105 people were arrested and several injured during the dispersal of the rally of the People's Assembly. Policemen Nodar Tskhadadze and Vladimir Mashulashvili were killed during a crash into the crowd of police and protesters. Two more bodies were found on the roof of a one-story shop. According to the investigation, the death was caused by electric shock from an electric cable.
