President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Sunday received president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Ching-Kuo Wu and members of the International Olympic Committee.
President Aliyev said he was happy that Baku was hosting AIBA Men`s World Boxing Championships, expressing confidence the event would be a success.
He said a great preparatory work had been done for the championship, adding the country is well experienced in hosting international sport events.
The Azerbaijani leader stressed the importance of the championship, and said he was confident the event would contribute to expanding the country`s cooperation with the International Olympic Committee.
The president of the International Boxing Association hailed Azerbaijan`s experience in hosting sport events, saying AIBA junior and youth boxing championships previously held in Baku were a success.
Ching-Kuo Wu said it was very important that Baku was hosting Olympic qualifying tournaments.
He praised President Ilham Aliyev`s attention towards developing boxing as chief of the country`s national Olympic committee.
President Aliyev thanked the International Boxing Association for supporting Azerbaijani boxers.
The Head of State said developing sports was one of the key priorities for the Azerbaijani government.
The President recalled Azerbaijani boxers` successful performance at recent youth Olympic games, expressing confidence the Baku-hosted AIBA Men`s World Boxing Championships would increase the Azerbaijani youth`s interest in boxing.
