Agreement on issue of strengthening Georgian defence capability by the U.S. is important for the Georgia's security, as well as for the region's security, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at a governmental meeting on Tuesday, commenting on meeting of the Georgian and U.S. presidents in the White House.
He said the matter is not only joint exercises and receipt of equipment under the anti-terror operation in Afghanistan but also separate programme of strengthening defence capability of Georgia.
Mr Gilauri also noted importance of start of talks on free trade with the U.S.
"This will be the most important factor of Georgia's economic activity," he said.
The Prime Minister also called the U.S. support to Georgia's accession to NATO an 'important factor'.
"Urgency of this issue rises taking into consideration NATO Chicago summit scheduled for May," he said.
