Azerbaijani Prosecutor General meets PACE co-rapporteurs

Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov met on Tuesday with co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Azerbaijan Joseph Debono Grech and Pedro Agramunt who are on visit to Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General's office told Trend on Tuesday.

During the meeting the Prosecutor General noted dynamic development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the PACE, gave detailed information on adoption of progressive legislative acts, signed by President Ilham Aliyev, on modernization of judicial system in the country, establishment under these reforms of normative base for the Prosecutor General's office's activities, about concrete work in the field of combating corruption and implementation of joint projects with NGOs.

The Prosecutor General stressed that experience of the European law and study and use of case law of the European Court of Human Rights are priority obligations of the Prosecutor General's office and noted work being implemented in connection with "National action plan in the field of human rights in Azerbaijan".

Mr Agramunt expressed satisfaction over close cooperation of the PACE with Azerbaijan and appreciated judicial reforms being implemented in the country as well as important measures carried out jointly with the Council of Europe on legislative acts, which serve as more safe protection of human rights.

He said the organization they represent supports democratic processes in the country and is always ready to provide legal assistance to Azerbaijan in this sphere.

The sides also expressed opinions and discussed issues of mutual interest.
