Azerbaijan activates positions in international arena and the upcoming participation of the country in such a reputable forum like G 20 is a vivid example of this, MP Jeyhun Osmanli said.

Azerbaijan will be presented at a summit of foreign ministers of G 20, which will be held in the Mexican town of Los Cabos on February 18-20 for the first time.

"If we analyze the past 20 years, each period in Azerbaijan has a special reality. If the first 10 years are described as formation of independence, the next 10 years were a period of economic recovery. We have witnessed the interesting process in the early years of the third decade of the independence of Azerbaijan, it activates positions in international arena," Osmanli told Trend.

Osmanli said Azerbaijan has set a global goal and reached it. Striking examples of this is the election of the country as non-permanent member of UN Security Council for 2012-2013, victory at the Eurovision.

Osmanli said Azerbaijan turned from a regional player into a global one. "Today, the country plays an important role in ensuring Europe's energy security and takes a strategic position in the trans-national corridors.The adoption of special resolutions by the parliaments of some countries to recognize Khojaly Genocide is the indication that Azerbaijan has taken a special place in world politics," Osmanli said.

Azerbaijan has become one of the ten countries invited to the G20.

Mexico is a chairman of the G20 in 2012.

In addition to the G20 member countries 10 countries and one organization are invited to a meeting: African Union, Algeria, Austria, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Norway, Singapore, Spain and the UAE.
