Nominations of 33 deputies, who again nominated themselves as candidates for parliamentary elections, have not been confirmed and their names have not been included in the electoral list, Fars news agency quotes chairman of the Iranian State Commission on elections Sulet Murtazavi as telling reporters on Monday.

He said 5395 candidates have been nominated for the parliamentary elections, of which the electoral roll includes the names of 3299 candidates.

Some 261 MPs nominated themselves as candidates in parliamentary elections of IX convocation.

Registration of candidates for deputies of the Parliament of the ninth convocation, elections of which will be held on March 2, started on December 24. Registration of candidates continues for one week. According to Iran's electoral law, the final decision on participation or non-participation in the election of the candidates is taken by the Supervisory Council.

According to the Iranian media, the Supervisory Council will name candidates on the electoral list on Feb 21.

About 48.2 million people have the right to vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar told reporters.

He said the candidates on the electoral roll will be able to start campaigning from February 23, they have the right to campaign till the evening of February 29.

Parliamentary elections in Iran are held every four years. Parliamentary elections of the VIII convocation were held on March 14, 2008. Parliament, chaired by Ali Larijani, currently has 290 members.
