Presidential elections have begun today in Russia. Voting is conducted from 8 am to 8 pm (local time).

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, leader of the Russian Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky, nominee from the Fair Russia party Sergey Mironov and self-promoted Mikhail Prokhorov are all competing for the post of president which for the first time will be elected for 6 years.

The CEC should sum up the final voting results no later than March 14, and until March 17 they must be officially published. Russian President who will be elected at this election will take office on May 7.
