The Senate in Argentina has adopted a statement on the opening of an embassy in Azerbaijan.

The author of the document titled, "Declaration on the Establishment of the Embassy of Argentina in the Fraternal Republic of Azerbaijan," is Chairman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Pablo Verani, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Buenos Aires said.

Argentina was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence on March 9, 1992 and the two countries have had friendly relations since, a statement said.

A number of documents on cooperation in various fields have been signed and the inter-parliamentary friendship group was established in 2011.

The two countries have sound opportunities for cooperation, particularly in areas such as energy, agriculture, the sciences and technology.

Economic relations are growing rapidle. The trade turnover between the countries increased by 44 percent in 2010. Bilateral cooperation will develop even further on the basis of newly
opened diplomatic missions, and in this regard the Azerbaijani Embassy opened in Argentina in 2010.

The statement welcomed a decree signed by the president of Argentina to open an embassy in Azerbaijan.
