The permanent representatives of Azerbaijan and South Africa to the UN jointly with International Institution for Peace held a roundtable conference on "Conflicts Prevention in Africa and the role of response systems" on Friday.

The permanent representatives of Azerbaijan and South Africa to the UN jointly with International Institution for Peace held a roundtable conference on "Conflicts Prevention in Africa and the role of response systems" on Friday.

The purpose of roundtable was considering of measures to be taken to strenghten the systems of evaluating of causes of conflicts in African region, Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to the UN said in its press release.

The roundtable was attended by permanent representatives and representatives of International Institution for Peace, as well as guests from the UN, the African Union and Security Institution acting in Addis-Abeba.

Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev in opening speech said that there are efforts for futher development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and African Union and to consider of providing some assistance to eliminate humanitarian crisis in Africa.

Mehdiyev noted that Azerbaijan as a country suffering from the aggressive policy of Armenia, understands the importance of fast solution of conflicts well and focuses on issues concerning African countries and eliminate threats. He stressed that efforts to draw attention to the issue of the international community will continue.

Mehdiyev also said that in order to strengthen relations with African countries, laying the foundations for long-term cooperation and presence in the region, Azerbaijan has observer status at the African Union, and in continuation of this policy opened an embassy in South Africa.

At the end of the event, noting the importance of joint efforts and capacity of potential, it was recommended to leave on the agenda the issues raised during the discussion.
