NATO's special representative gets acquainted with measures to improve election environment in Georgia

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze received on Monday, a special representative of NATO Secretary General in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, and told him about the events that have been adopted by Parliament to improve the electoral environment.

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Bakradze received on Monday, a special representative of NATO Secretary General in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, James Appathurai, and told him about the events that have been adopted by Parliament to improve the electoral environment.

Appathurai said NATO positively assesses reforms in Georgia, which allows NATO to continue to cooperate with Georgia in the new format.

"Georgia for NATO is the partner country with which we would like to have a deeper dialogue on security issues. We must be extremely creative in order to strengthen our cooperation," Appathurai said.

David Bakradze in turn told in detail about the situation in the country, focusing on the upcoming autumn elections. He noted that the country stands in the way of democratic elections, an indicator of what will be the elections which will be held as fair and transparent as possible, that is the desire of the government. David Bakradze briefed NATO diplomat with the legislative changes aimed at improving the electoral environment.

In conclusion, James Appathurai reiterated his support for Georgia's NATO aspirations and wished success in joint programs.
