Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with his counterpart, Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar during the visit to Colombia in Bogota, the ministry said.
Cuellar, noting the great potential for the development of Colombia-Azerbaijani relations in the trade, agriculture and energy sectors, emphasised that existing developed relations in the political arena provides an effective framework for cooperation in other areas.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister conveyed a letter from President Ilham Aliyev to the President of Colombia, with an invitation to visit Azerbaijan on an official visit.
Mammadyarov stressed the importance of expanding the legal framework of cooperation between the two countries and the need to sign agreements on avoidance of double taxation and mutual encouragement and protection of investments.
The ministers also discussed ways to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the possibility of cooperation in the framework of the UN Security Council and the prospects for cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.
The minister also met with representatives of Columbian business circles.
The visit to Colombia was held as part of a major tour of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister to Latin America from July 23 - 31. Mammadyarov will pay official visits to Argentina and Uruguay, and Peru.
