There are no Azerbaijani citizens among the victims of the earthquake in Iran, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz Ali Alizadeh told Trend on Monday.

Alizadeh noted that consulate staff was at the central headquarters, set up for earthquake relief on the eve and in the morning, and according to the headquarters' information there are no citizens of Azerbaijan among the victims of the earthquake.

The Consul General also said that the humanitarian aid of Azerbaijani Emergency Ministry, directed by the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has already reached Bilasuvar border crossing point, and will be in Iran in the next few hours.

"Three large cars with humanitarian aid were sent from Nakhichevan through Julfa border crossing point to Iran last night. The aid has been already transferred to the central headquarters for the liquidation of the consequences of the earthquake.

A humanitarian aid convoy of 25 vehicles was sent on Monday by the Azerbaijan's Emergencies ministry to the earthquake-hit region of Iran, the ministry reported earlier.

Humanitarian aid was sent on the instruction of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The convoy is carrying 3000 blankets, one thousand bedding sets, 460 tents, flour, rice, tea, sugar, oil, pasta, fruit juices, water and other necessary food items.

The number of dead of the earthquake on Saturday in northwestern Iran in the East Azerbaijan Province, has reached 306 people, the number of victims amounted to 2,500 people, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Sunday with reference to the deputy head of the Interior Ministry and head of the organization of emergency management under the Interior Ministry Hassan Gaddami.

According to the Geological Survey of Iran, the magnitude of the earthquake, which occurred at 16:53 local time, amounted to 6.3. The center of the tremors was located at a depth of 9.8 km at 32 km from the city of Ahar province of East Azerbaijan. One of the aftershocks of magnitude 6 and less was recorded in 17:04 local time in the nearby town Varazkan. In addition, the tremors were also reported in other northern provinces of Iran, in particular in West Azerbaijan, Gilan, Zanjan and Ardebil.
