Azerbaijan’s President receives International Chess Federation president

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today received President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
Ilyumzhinov has recalled his first visit to Azerbaijan in 1993 and his meeting with national leader Heydar Aliyev.
FIDE president noted that he has witnessed rapid development of the country in the past years.
Stressing the successful cooperation between FIDE and relevant bodies of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilyumzhinov said that Azerbaijan was the first among 177 members of FIDE to adopt a special state programme on the development of chess in the country.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov touched upon FIDE`s proposal on Baku`s hosting the 2016 World Chess Olympiad.
In his turn, President Ilham Aliyev touched on successful results of Azerbaijani chess players at different international events underlining the development of all kinds of sports, as well as chess in the country.
The Head of State praised the FIDE`s suggestion to hold the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence on further expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan`s relevant bodies and FIDE.
