Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 18 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /
This year, most of the violations of the state border took place in the southern region, the head of the State Border Service (SBS), Elchin Guliyev, told reporters on Saturday.
Today, modern technology is used for the protection of the border, he said.
"New frontiers, border commandants, new military units and bases are being created. By late 2012, most of the work, that is 80 - 90 percent, will be completed. Hopefully, in September and October a number of new units will be operational," the SBS head said.
Today the Service is experiencing a new dynamic phase of development, the SBS said.
"As a result of timely measures taken by the President of Azerbaijan, today, the material base of SBS, capabilities of weapons, the use of new technology have yielded positive results in the protection of borders, both on land and at sea," Guliyev said.
