Azerbaijan`s first lady, goodwill ambassador of UNESCO Mehriban Aliyeva has on Tuesday attended an annual meeting of UNESCO`s Honorary and Goodwill Ambassadors in the organization`s Headquarters in Paris.
UNESCO`s work and how internationally-renowned personalities can help the Organization meet its objectives were the subject of the 12th annual meeting of UNESCO`s Goodwill Ambassadors.
Addressing the event, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova spoke of the priorities and strategy of the organization.
The event brought together 22 goodwill ambassadors and tens of goodwill artists.
The meeting focused on education and its development.
Goodwill ambassadors spoke of projects implemented in their countries under the patronage of UNESCO.
The Goodwill Ambassadors are eminent personalities who spread the ideals of UNESCO and promote its activities around their world through their name and fame. Several are linked to specific programmes of the Organization, while others take part in special events such as concerts or exhibitions to raise funds for UNESCO or launch projects such as local radio stations or scientific workshops. Goodwill Ambassadors also participate in campaigns to promote education, the struggle against HIV and AIDS and protection of street children.
At the end of the event, the Goodwill Ambassadors posed for photographs.
Every year, the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors meet in order to share their experiences and actions in favor of the Organization. This meeting, an important event in UNESCO's calendar, is the occasion for the Goodwill Ambassadors to present and share their activities of the past year. It is also a time to discuss and plan new projects for the future.
