The fines against the members of illegal protests in Azerbaijan should be increased, Yeni Azerbaijan party official, MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend.
He noted that some radical circles of society organize illegal actions that lead to struggling and damage.
"The damage is not compensated by these radical groups. On the other hand, a small fine does not compensate the damage caused to any valuable assets during an illegal rally in the city center," he added.
He added that these fines are preventive in nature.
"The protesters should feel the weight of the fine and avoid illegal actions," Gurbanli said.
He noted that there is a need to amend the law On freedom of assembly in the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences with regard to the increase of the fines.
The fine is presently from 7 to 13 manat. Under the law, if the unauthorized action will cause significant damage to the freedom, rights and interests of others, the protesters are fined 300 manat, and organizers - 500 manat.
