Australia has responded to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's protest note over the resolution adopted by the Legislative Council of New South Wales in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Trend today.

A response note stressed that the Australian government's position on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict remains unchanged. According to the position of the international community, Australia does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent country.

Australia supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and informs that this position has not changed, the note said.

The Australian Government hopes that the conflict will be resolved through the dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Australian Government supports peace talks held by OSCE Minsk Group, the note said.

It is also noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Australia continues both bilaterally and within international organizations.

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan sent congratulatory letter to his Australian counterpart Bob Carr on the occasion of election of Australia as a non-permanent member of UN Security Council for 2013-2014 and stressed the need for cooperation in the framework of this influential organization.
