Turkish Interior Ministry: PKK has 2000 children amongst its members
Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.30 / Trend A.Tagiyeva /
More than 2000 children are involved in the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party by deception and violence, TRT Haber TV channel quotes Turkish Interior Minister Idris Naim Sahin as saying.
According to Sahin, during the current year the number of PKK members declined sharply and now the organisation is trying to replace fighters with children and teenagers.
Despite the PKK's attempts to create chaos in Turkey, observations over the last few years show that the organisation has become weaker, Sahin said.
Over 10 months, Turkish security forces rendered harmless 716 PKK militants in different parts of the country, including 496 terrorists that have been killed, 21 wounded, 44 arrested and 155 surrendered to the authorities.
During the reporting period, the security forces held six large and 19 local operations against militants.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has lasted for over 25 years. The PKK is recognised as a terrorist organisation by both the UN and the EU.
