The draft resolution 'Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their consequences for international peace, security and development' will be discussed within the UN, GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili told journalists on Thursday.

This draft resolution was recently approved at the 26th meeting of the GUAM Council of National Coordinators (CNC) in Kiev.

"We approved the final draft of our resolution at the GUAM Council of National Coordinators meeting. Now our representatives in New York have the opportunity to work with our partners on the text of resolution in order to attract maximum support for the resolution from our partners at the UN General Assembly," Chechelashvili said.

He does not yet know whether the draft resolution will be tabled at the United Nations as an official document or if it will be agreed upon between the delegations of the partner countries.

Chechelashvili is confident that if the document is tabled at the General Assembly, it will be considered.

"We need the resolution to be supported by our key partners. This is difficult work, and it is carried out under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan as the country chairing GUAM. This work will be continued by the next chairman of GUAM,"Chechelashvili said.

In Kiev, the national coordinators also developed the draft of UN resolution 'Cooperation between the United Nations and GUAM', which will soon be submitted to the UN General Assembly, Chechelashvili said.
