In advance of Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis the staff of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora visited the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honor. They also commemorated the outstanding scientist-ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
"This great holiday was granted to us by national leader Heydar Aliyev, and all Azerbaijanis mark Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis on December 31," the chairman of the Committee Nazim Ibrahimov said.
He said the State Committee for Work with Diaspora has been functioning for more than ten years. The national leader created this structure to unite and bring together Azerbaijanis around the world.
"We believe that the entire staff of the State Committee, the people related to Azerbaijani diaspora must honor and pay tribute to the memory of the national leader," Ibrahimov said.
Over the past years, diaspora organizations achieved great success, demonstrating stronger solidarity, manifested in many ways, the chairman of the committee said.
Speaking about the future goals, Ibrahimov said that the committee will focus on enhancing the activities of Azerbaijani diaspora.
"I believe that closer ties will be established between diaspora organizations next year, which means that in the future Azerbaijani diaspora will become exemplary in the whole world. Many countries in the world want to use the experience of Azerbaijan in this sphere as an example," he said.
Ibrahimov added that a meeting of heads of Turkic states' diaspora structures will be held in Baku in January 2013.
"Many secular structures want to hold their events in Azerbaijan, which is an indicator of great authority, achieved by Azerbaijan in the international arena. Diaspora plays a special role in this," Ibrahimov said.
Reminding the creation of World Azerbaijani Youth Association, Ibragimov added that one of the main goals of this organization is to broaden activities in this field.
