Head of fund: Azerbaijan's inclusion in list of dangerous and risky countries is absurd
Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 29 / Trend E.Mehdiyev /
Azerbaijan's inclusion in the list of dangerous and risky countries is absurd, the president of the Constitutional Studies Fund Alimammad Nuriyev told Trend on Saturday, commenting on the inclusion of Azerbaijan in the list of such dangerous and risky countries as Afghanistan, Sudan and Libya by the U.S. State Department.
"The criteria based on which Azerbaijan was included in the list of risky countries is not clear. It is absurd to compare Azerbaijan to the countries such as Sudan and Afghanistan. A risky country is a politically unstable country with hot spots, high levels of organized crime and fast growing number of crimes, " Nuriyev said.
He said none of these criteria is related to Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan can not be perceived as a hot spot, and it is absurd to talk about organized crime in Azerbaijan, as the country annually ranks last in the CIS regarding the number of crimes, with crime detection rate reaching above 90 percent," he said.
He added that no terrorist acts were committed in Azerbaijan over the last 10 years.
"However, if you look at the developed countries, the level of organized crime appears to be high there and terrorist attacks take place. Few days ago, a young man burst into a school with a gun and shot 20 children and six teachers in the U.S. Another incident took place in the U.S. when a 62-year-old man, receiving a temporary permit, left the prison and set his house on fire, leaving his sister to burn inside He shot two firefighters who came to put out the fire. The murder of 77 innocent people by Breivik in Norway was quickly forgotten, " Nuriyev said.
