Turkish President Abdullah Gul wanted to make a ceremonial gesture in line with European culture and civilized relations, Azerbaijani MP Zahid Oruj told Trend, commenting on Turkish President's congratulation to Serzh Sargsyan in connection with his re-election.

"It is easy to calculate Turkish President's aims in congratulating Sargsyan on his re-election. However, by what means? We do not want in any way to impose any moral obligations on Turkish President. Perhaps the political and tactical plans of the brotherly state sometimes require irrational steps, "Oruj said.

Simply observing elections was sufficient for refraining from sending greetings and an insincere diplomatic message.

"If the basic platform of all candidates was based on the ideals of Agri Dagh, anti-Turkish statements and Karabakh platform, how can the one congratulate the winner of such a marathon and criminal elections? But tomorrow this winner will start fulfillment of his promises of territorial claims to Turkey," Oruj said.
