Turkish FM: Syria’s future to be discussed at a meeting in Istanbul

The future of Syria and the measures to be taken to stabilize the situation in the country will be discussed at a regular meeting of the "Friends of Syria" to be held in Istanbul on April 20, the Anadolu agency quotes Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying on Thursday.

Davutoglu said that the meeting will be attended by U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry.

"I have held a telephone conversation with my U.S. counterpart, John Kerry, and we discussed the details of the meeting of the "Friends of Syria"," Davutoglu said.

It is expected that the meeting of the "Friends of Syria" will be attended by representatives of 11 countries: the United States, Turkey, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for about two years. According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000 with around three million in need of humanitarian assistance. The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
