The EL movement has no prospects for the presidential elections, Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, MP Ali Ahmadov told Trend today.
"If one considers the EL movement's odds in the upcoming presidential elections, I want to assure you that it has no prospects," he said. "There is no reason to invent myths about the authorities' attacks on the movement."
He was commenting on EL movement's charges against authorities over the deprivation of EL's offices.
He added that Azerbaijani authorities do not need any attacks on the EL movement.
"Except for a few people united in this movement, EL is not supported by anyone," he said. "Nobody has heard of this movement. Therefore, the EL movement establishment and its representatives' statements do not bother the Azerbaijani ruling party or reigning authorities.
He stressed that as for the fictitious problem with the EL movement's offices, representatives of the movement wanted to use private houses of various people or their buildings as offices.
"If there are any problems, it is nothing but problems between representatives of the movement and the individuals who rented houses or buildings to them," he said.
He said that the representatives of the EL movement agreed to lease to different people and if the contract is broken, it is unconscionable to blame Azerbaijani authorities.
"But the truth is that EL movement wants to discredit Azerbaijani authorities," he said. "Of course, if there are worthy competitors during the presidential campaign, the ruling party will compete with them. But what type of contest can be conducted with the EL movement?"
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for this autumn.
