Azerbaijan, Baku, May 3 / Trend A.Taghiyeva /

Turkey intends to terminate a contract with private company BMC to purchase a new batch of Kirpi Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP), the Zaman newspaper reported on Friday.

According to the report in this regard, the Defense Industry Secretariat of the Armed Forces of Turkey sent a letter to the company in which it notified the company about refusal to cooperate. The reason for terminating the contract is the delay in the production of a new batch of armored vehicles ordered by Turkey in 2009.

In addition to termination of the contract, Turkey may also demand a fine of seven million euros from the company.

The manufacturing of armored vehicles was suspended because the company could not get the credit for its manufacture.

BMC has manufactured 278 armoured vehicles since March 2009, when the company signed an agreement with the Turkish Armed Forces, until December 2011.

Kirpi MRAP can accommodate about 13 personnel. One of its properties is that it can move over any ground conditions and reach speeds of up to 105 kilometres per hour.
