Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe to withdraw the bid for holding the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games-2020 in Tokyo, Hurriyet newspaper reported on Saturday.

"After signing the agreement on Sinop nuclear power plant construction, I asked Japanese Prime Minister to abandon the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020," Erdogan said. "I hope that he will give the appropriate instructions to Tokyo's mayor."

Erdogan added that the Olympic Games were held in Japan, so this time the country must give way to Turkey.

Earlier, Turkey made a bid to hold the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Istanbul in 2020. Turkey guarantees allocating $ 19 billion to organize the Olympic Games.

The official bid for holding the Olympic Games was made before September 1, 2011. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on May 23, 2012 that Madrid, Istanbul and Tokyo are the official candidates. The IOC will announce the capital of the Olympic Games at its 125th session in Buenos Aires on September 7, 2013.
