Azerbaijani parliament examines amnesty act

The Azerbaijani Parliament has begun discussing the amnesty act. It was included on the agenda at the initiative of the Azerbaijani First Lady, MP Mehriban Aliyeva in connection with the 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev.

The Azerbaijani Parliament has begun discussing the amnesty act. It was included on the agenda at the initiative of the Azerbaijani First Lady, MP Mehriban Aliyeva in connection with the 90th anniversary of Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Aliyeva delivered speech on this issue at a parliamentary session.

According to the document, the amnesty will affect 9,000 people of which over 2000will be released.

According to the act, women who had not committed crimes representing a greater threat to the society and those convicted of committing less heinous crimes and the perpetrators who committed the crimes under 18 years old.

Also included are invalids of the first and second groups, men who have reached 60 years old, individuals having minor and disabled children of the first or second groups, individuals who participated in the battle to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, internally displaced persons as a result of the occupation of some Azerbaijani territories and individuals of other categories all fall under this category.
