Some media outlets and external forces are carrying out propaganda against the Turkish police in an attempt to discredit its work in the eyes of people, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, Anadolu agency reported.

According to Erdogan, the police did not allow the spread of violence during the events at Taksim Square.

"During Taksim Square events force has been used against the police by the demonstrators. We will not allow slandering of the Turkish police by some forces," the prime minister said.

Protests were taking place in Turkey for three weeks since late May. According to the authorities the protests had anti-government character.

Turkey's opposition parties accused the police of using excessive force against protesters.

As a result of the unrests in Turkey nearly 4,000 people got traumas of varying severity, 5 died and 4,900 were detained by the police.
