At Saturday’s meeting, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan approved Ilyas Ismayilov as a presidential candidate from the Adalat party.

At Saturday's meeting, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan approved Ilyas Ismayilov as a presidential candidate from the Adalat party.

The plenipotentiary representatives of Adalat party were also registered.

Earlier the documents of 18 candidates were submitted for participation in the presidential elections.

These candidates include: the candidate of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, the party chairman, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the candidate from Azadlig party, the party chairman Ahmed Oruj, the candidate from the Citizen and Development of Azerbaijan party, the party chairman Ali Aliyev, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic party of Azerbaijan Fuad Aliyev, lawyer Ilgar Mammadov (Altay), who has nominated his candidacy on his own initiative, the chairman of the Umid party Igbal Aghazade, the chairman of the United Popular Front party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade, the chairman of Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, the self-nominated candidate, Member of Azerbaijani Parliament Zahid Oruj, the National Revival party chairman Faraj Guliyev, the Director of the East-West Research Centre Arastun Mammad oglu Orujlu, self-nominated Elshan Yusifov, Ismayil Hasanov, Gudrat Isagov, Ilgar Mammadov, the chairman of Adalat party Ilyas Ismayilov, and Rustam Ibrahimbeyov from the initiative group of the National Council.

The CEC have approved the candidacy of 15 people.

Earlier, the CEC approved the candidacies of the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of Azadlig party Ahmed Oruj, Ilgar Mammadov (Altay), chairman of Umid party Igbal Aghazade, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic party of Azerbaijan Fuad Aliyev, chairman of the Citizen and Development party Ali Aliyev, the chairman of the Social Democratic party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade, the chairman of the United Popular Front party of Azerbaijan Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of Modern Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, self-nominated candidates, Zahid Oruj, Ismayil Yusifov, Elshan Hasanov and the chairman of the National Revival party Faraj Guliyev, the Director of the East-West Research Centre Arastun Orujlu.

Azerbaijani citizens who have the voting right (active or passive), initiative groups of voters, political parties, blocs of political parties are entitled to the right to nominate their candidacy in order to participate in the presidential election.

Azerbaijan will hold presidential election on October 9.

The previous presidential election was held on October 15, 2008.

Presidential elections are held in Azerbaijan every five years.
