At Monday's meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj was officially registered as a presidential candidate.

The plenipotentiary representatives of Oruj were also registered at the meeting held under the chairmanship of CEC head Mazahir Panahov.

The receipt of documents began on August 20.

The chairman of New Azerbaijan party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the chairman of Umid party, Igbal Agazade were registered as presidential candidates.

As of the morning of September 9, the candidacies of 21 people were approved.

Azerbaijani citizens who have the voting right (active or passive), initiative group of voters, political parties, blocks of political parties have the right to nominate the candidacy for participation in the presidential elections.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9. Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years.
