Azerbaijan will organise a high level meeting in the United Nations on October 28 to promote cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev said at a press conference in New York today.

Azerbaijan will organise a high level meeting in the United Nations on October 28 to promote cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev said at a press conference in New York today.

Azerbaijan's initiative will be implemented during the country's presidency at the UN Security Council.

Azerbaijan has been presiding over the UN Security Council since October 1.The country's Permanent Representative to the UN also announced plans to be implemented by the country during its presidency in the organisation.

According to him, a UN Security Council members' trip to Africa in October is being planned. The delegation will visit the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda, as well as hold consultations with the Security Council of the African Union in Addis Ababa.

The Security Council will also hold several public meetings in October including debates on the situation in the Middle East, the role of women in promoting the rule of law in post-conflict situations and methods of the UN Security Council's activity.
