Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 9

By Sabina Ahmadova - Trend:

The sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Eastern Partnership member states are important for the EU, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule said Sept. 9.

He made the remarks in Baku at a press conference held after the fourth informal meeting of the Eastern Partnership members' foreign ministers.

Fule said the European Union intends to strengthen cooperation with these countries, adding that each time the value of differentiation is increasing.

Fule went on to add that inclusiveness is an important part of the Eastern Partnership, noting that sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of each of the six eastern partners is very important for the EU.

He said the important issues include the fight against corruption, the justice system and the role of civil society.

"We must respect the civil society. Their participation is very important for us," Fule stressed.
