Level of Azerbaijan-Russia relations a major factor of stability in region (UPDATE)

As strategic partners, Azerbaijan and Russia are developing the relations in various fields, Chairperson of the Russian Council of the Federation (upper house of the parliament) Valentina Matviyenko told reporters in Baku Oct. 2.

"This was possible through the efforts of the leaders of the two countries," she said.

Matviyenko is participating in the International Humanitarian Forum which opened in Baku Oct. 2.

"The Azerbaijani and Russian presidents have very trusting and constructive relations," she said. "They have met this year, and such breakthroughs achieved during the Caspian summit is a result of effective cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan."

She said that the current level of the two countries' relations is a major factor of stability in the region.

"Our positions on most international and regional problems are either similar or coincide," she said. "We are also very actively cooperating with Azerbaijan in the United Nations, other international venues, as well as through the parliaments."

The International Humanitarian Forum in Baku will last from Oct. 2-3. Within the framework of the forum, tours to the country's districts, namely Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Quba and Qabala will be organized on Oct. 4-5.

Well-known politicians, representatives of the socio-political circles, scholars and figures of culture are also participating in the forum.
